LETTER TO MY FRIEND IN A WORLD OF DEVALUED DREAMS

Dear friend,

Have you ever felt left behind in your dreams? Have you felt like you are competing on the wrong field? It’s nothing new, with an accepted view of life in which some dreams are bigger than others. We live in such a world of devalued dreams. What makes it feel wrong or accepted?

To begin with, no dream is big or small, it’s how you live it that matters. I cannot forget how years back, my father threatened to turn his unserious children to tomato sellers. We rejected it with immediate effect but then he said, ‘I’m not cursing you. You cannot eat in a week without tomatoes, it is someone’s purpose and that “someone” is making it’.

Our society is grounded with policies we grow with, we feel it has to go one way which is our very own accustomed ways. And we think,
“No one, not even us, has the right to change it”. This is why we feel some people are better than others, and in a bid to wanting the best, we prefer a particular cliché. It is also why we feel we cannot share our dreams because people are confused on our behalf. They just make us struggle where we don’t belong.

Indeed, we cannot change the ladder of life and it’s gaps most especially but, as much as we can have many wealthy people at the top, there’s still a chain. When the rich man has a factory and the poor and middle class depend on his products, the rich man would be damned if they don’t buy from him. The general truth is we are all important.

At a time nurses were treated as prostitutes but not today, they are well paid and are valuable. It’s perhaps how some people lived the dream of being nurses. Your dream/passion may be beautiful, how you carry it is what matters. If you take it with pride and faithfulness, you would reap well from even those who laugh at you.

At some point, someone among the 7 billion plus people in the world would need you, if only you don’t neglect your purpose. We don’t look for a man without purpose, we search for unrelenting goal setters. The world will actually rejoice with you when you are worth it.

Furthermore, dreams are always being devalued by friends and family, people will always fight against your passion till you are worth it. They are actually catapults to your goal, it just depends on how you see them. The world won’t change for you, you just don’t back down till you earn the value you desire. Indeed, you have to earn it.

Till we meet again, dear friend, you can rise above the criticism if you are on the right track. However, your dreams aren’t going to become reality with your two eyes closed, you need to open your eyes and work while you aren’t reigning. It’s not about how big or small your dream is, it’s how you live it.

I drop my pen here. Please do write me back at [email protected] or [email protected] trust that your identity, except on request, wouldn’t be published for anonymous letters. Feel free to drop your suggestions, comments and questions in the box below. Have a great week!

Yours truly,
