HRP LETTER SERIES: Letter To My Friend Not Letting Go

Dear friend,

It’s been quite a cool day. Weather for two; me and my pen. I hope you are hale and hearty. Today, I write to you on letting go.

First, friend, a disclaimer: this is not to tell you to give up on all things but to give up on some things.

Few years ago, I sat in my room gleaning from the words of a speaker and he said something that struck me. He said, “till you know why I do the things I do, don’t do them”. Too many people are on another man’s race track, running helplessly to catch up and being kitted in shoes that do not size them. That’s a crazy rat race.

My letter to you is to believe in your limitless abilities as a human being. It doesn’t matter what anyone has told you, the fact is you can be a doctor today and become a business man or a lawyer tomorrow as long as you are willing. If you believe it’s frustrating, then that’s what it would be. Your beliefs are important.

Friend, I’m writing to inspire you to let go of wrong beliefs, wrong relationships, wrong and futile dreams. It’s hard, I know. You may keep going back to those beliefs because there are people around you who throw them at your face, you may keep going back to that relationship because you feel you’ll never get anyone better, and you may keep going back to that dream that holds no purpose for you because you see someone else doing it and prospering in it. Take a break…you are special.

You can be more if you let yourself. You can be more if you believe in yourself and the inherent abilities in you. You can be more if you understand that your feelings and life also matter to God. You can be more when you come into the full understanding of what purpose is.

Don’t hang on because a speaker told you to, or a writer told you to at some point. Hang on for the right reasons. Know your “why”, friend because there’s so much you need to let go of.

Some friends you used to have can never have a place in your life again. It’s not a sin, it’s also not a path to a dysfunctional destiny. It’s good you miss them, it’s good you pray for them but when you understand purpose, you know if to let them in or let them go.

You are not a garbage can, raise your head high because it’s time to let go of those dreams you’ve lived for others, it’s time to let go of the relationships with people who crush you and use you, God in all his might still doesn’t use you, so why should anyone blackmail you to think they deserve to hurt you. Raise your head high because it’s time to talk like you mean it and mean it by your attitude and carriage.

Let go of what you need to. The next stage of your life needs no excess baggage. It begins now.
